Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's Off to the Grocery Store We Go!

Who knew a trip to the grocery store could be so much fun! We visited our neighborhood Dominicks as an enrichment activity to our “Food” unit. We explored the different sections of the store, why certain foods need to be kept cold, and how foods are grouped together. We were excited to have the store manager Mr. Dave showed us the back of the store where the dairy products are brought in. We visited the bakery section to see a birthday cake being made and 90lbs of frosting being mixed (while munching on cookies). We were also treated to a fresh fruit cup while we did our shopping for our class fruit salad. What a fun day at the grocery store! Thanks to parent volunteers Ms. Russell and Mr. Moroney for chaperoning!

In math this week, we made wonderfully creative pictures using pattern block pieces and practiced skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. We also practiced making and reading graphs.

In science, we began to learn about the moon. We learned that the moon has a light side and a dark side, that it is made of rock, and that the moon orbits the _____ . See if your kindergartner can help you fill in the blank. Next week, we will discuss the phases of the moon.
We continued our Gingerbread Man unit this week. We’ve read and compared many versions of this story. Ask your kindergartner which one was their favorite. Next week, we will read the “Runaway Tortilla” a gingerbread man story with a Spanish twist.

Report cards were sent home today. Please keep the copy of your child's report for your files. Please sign and return the report card envelope to school on Monday. We will use the same envelope for the 2nd and 3rd trimester report card.

Please continue to send in pennies for our Student Council sponsored fundraiser "Pennies for Prakash."
